John Matthews BSc, BVMS, MRCVS
I have been a partner in Clarendon House Veterinary Centre, Chelmsford, Essex since 1985, working mainly with small animals, but also seeing a lot of goats in a professional capacity. As I am presently Honorary Veterinary Surgeon for the British Goat Society and Senior Vice-President of the Goat Veterinary Society, I talk to a number of veterinary surgeons and goat owners, not just in the UK but in many other parts of the world as well, regarding goat health problems.

Apart from being actively involved with our own goats here at home, I am also the author of "Diseases of the Goat" (published in both English and Spanish) which is now available in English as a 3rd edition. I am also co-author of "All About Goats".

Hilary Matthews  OND (Ag), NCA (Ag)
I first became interested in goats when we moved to Essex some 32 years ago and I was no longer able to be involved on a day to day basis with dairy cows.  This interest has now developed into far more than a hobby and for some years now I have been both a licenced judge and licenced inseminator for the British Goat Society as well as serving on the governing body of the society for some 13 years.
I have also attended and passed the judges' training seminar run by the American Dairy Goat Association which enabled me to judge in both America and Canada.
John and I show our goats extensively and wins include the Supreme Dairy Goat Champion at the Royal Show and  breeding both the goats who won the Interbreed Pairs Competion at the National Breed Show in 2005. It was at the Royal Show in 1992 where I also won the Duke of Edinburgh Trophy for the Best Stockperson in the Show.

I have produced two videos on Goat Keeping, which are now available worldwide as DVDs and I have contributed to Alan Mowlem’s Practical Goat keeping book.  Previously I have written a monthly column for the Smallholder magazine on goat keeping as well as contributing articles to both UK and American goat magazines . I am currently studying for a degree in Art History and in my spare time (sic) I work with John in our veterinary practice!

We are both avid West Ham United fans and live on a smallholding some 35 miles north east of London with our dairy goats, Bridget and Jack the cats and one very boisterous Airedale Terrier called Hutch.
